Mexican Jade Fuego Tarantula

Aphonopelma mooreae is currently the most expensive tarantula species in the hobby—both as babies and adults—and for good reason. There have only been a handful of legal imports into the country, and very few specimens exist stateside. This makes availability extremely limited and demand incredibly high. I personally own two of the largest females from the very first legal import, and I’m actively searching for a large or mature male if anyone has one available. Despite its rarity and value, this species is surprisingly beginner friendly: slow growing, exceptionally hardy, and absolutely stunning. The colors are unreal in person—deep, rich, almost otherworldly—and unlike many New World species, they do not kick urticating hairs. This is a true grail tarantula.

🔔 Special Notices
This species is extremely rare within the country due to very limited legal imports. If you want to see how I personally keep, feed, and care for high-end and rare tarantulas like this one, check out my YouTube channel below.

💧 Humidity ~50%. Mostly dry substrate with a lightly moist corner.
🏠 Housing
Babies 1–4 oz deli cup with dry substrate and light ventilation.
Juveniles Terrestrial enclosure with 3–4” of compact substrate for burrowing.
Adults Enclosure 2–3× leg span with deep substrate and a secure hide.
🍽️ General Diet
Crickets and roaches (Dubia, Red Runner, Lobster, Madagascar Hissing). Slings take baby crickets or small roaches. If prey is too large, pre-kill it. Remove leftovers promptly. Very large specimens may occasionally take a pinky or hopper mouse—very sparingly. We never use pinhead crickets due to low protein.

⚠️ Safety Disclaimer
Safety Disclaimer: Experiencing a tarantula bite is an extremely rare occurrence, and it's important to note that there have been NO recorded fatalities due to a tarantula bite. The venom potency varies across species, with Old World tarantulas generally having stronger venom than their New World counterparts. Within the Old World category, the Poecilotheria genus is known for having particularly potent venom.

It's crucial to approach tarantulas with respect and understanding. If you happen to get bitten, which is unlikely, the key is to stay calm. In most cases, the discomfort is superficial and subsides within a few minutes to a few hours. However, bites from species with more potent venom may result in symptoms lasting up to a week. Remember, larger tarantulas tend to have more venom than smaller ones.

Please be aware that I cannot assume responsibility for bites. Tarantula handling should be done at your own risk. In my 13 years of experience with these creatures, I have only been bitten once, by a species with highly potent venom. While the experience was painful, the symptoms had completely disappeared after a week.

Handle tarantulas responsibly, and always prioritize your safety and the well-being of the tarantula.
